"Pain... Agony... My hatred burns through the cavernous deeps. The world heaves with my torment. Its wretched kingdoms quake beneath my rage. But at last... The whole of Azeroth will break... And all will burn beneath the shadow of my wings."
1.0 was released near the end of May and it has been a rather eventful summer. In glorious triumph me and my wife purchased our first house, which required a LOT of work before we were able to move in (near the end of July). However, also since the 1.0 release, I lost my two remaining grandparents, god rest them. I also job transitioned from one Gulag to another that offers slightly less beatings (pays more, fewer hours)! As I mentioned back when 1.0 was released 2.0 was started before 1.0 was even done. The theme of 2.0 is the Cataclysm but there is a lot of ‘neutral’ content that was added along with the Cataclysm content. I have also reterrained much of the map, I was hoping to redo all of Azeroth but with everything going on this summer it was prudent to scale down the scope. As such I have not so much as rotated a single doodad in the Eastern Kingdoms (or Outland) and unfortunately that will have to wait till 3.0. Uldum, Deepholm, and Vashj’ir have been added and Kalimdor & Northrend received quite an aesthetic upgrade. Terrain will never stop…
Because of the volume and diversity of the content (and the sheer size of the document I typed up these thread in) multiple posts are required. At the end of each post I include a ‘Balance Variables’ section, that highlights certain variables that can easily be adjusted in an effort to tune balance. I feel most of the numbers are in the right ballpark but may need some tuning based on gameplay feedback.
Because of all the stuff I had going on this summer I was contemplating doing a 2.5 patch that did the Eastern Kingdoms and follow up content to the content added this patch. Talking with a few people about the plans for 3.0 it was just deemed best to start 3.0 and roll the Eastern Kingdom re-terrain into that. I still have a little bit to do before 2.0 can be released, but it should be ready for uploading hopefully next week. I’m likely going to start 3.0 right away but to do so will lock 2.0 as I would only bug fix and do small things that can easily be transferred. It will be a while (currently set at 4.0) before I will actually be able to do smaller patches.
I had a blast working on this patch and I’m very excited to start 3.0 and 4.0. Those shouldn’t take as long and I’m certainly hoping the rest of the year I will be a little more relaxed.
